St Winnow Primary School sports day hoop race

St Barnabas Trust Inclusion Sports Festivals

Our Inclusion Festival moves away from traditional leisure centres to host the events within our own school grounds. These days are all about discovery, personal triumph, and the joy of movement.

Our Three Regional Hubs

The festival will take place simultaneously at a central host school within each of our main hubs:

  • Saltash Hub: Hosted at a central Saltash primary site.
  • Liskeard Hub: Hosted at a central Liskeard primary site.
  • Bodmin Hub: Hosted at a central Bodmin primary site.

Our Trust Vision: “Bring It!”

At the Inclusion Festival, “Bring It” is about a positive attitude and a willingness to try:

  • Bring your Energy: To explore five different sporting zones and give every activity your best shot.
  • Bring your Courage: To try a sport you’ve never seen before (such as Boccia or Kurling) and step outside your comfort zone.
  • Bring your Best: To focus on your own progress and celebrate when a teammate hits their target.

The Discovery Zones

Students will rotate through five specialised stations designed to ensure high success rates for every age and ability level.

Soft Archery

Using suction-cup arrows to hit colourful targets and score points safely.

Concentration, stillness and patience.

New Age Kurling

An indoor version of the winter sport - Sliding stone on bearings towards a target.

Weight control and smooth delivery.

Bowling

A classic game of coordination to see how many pins you can topple with a weighted ball.

Timing, release technique and immediate fun!

Bench Hockey

A fast-paced but accessible version of Hockey using benches as boundaries to keep the ball in play.

Hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

Boccia

A precision ball sport played from a seated position. The goal is to get your ball closest to the “Jack”.

Strategy, steady hands and accuracy.

The Festival Format: “Find Your Spark”

This is not a traditional “knockout” tournament. Instead, we focus on participation and personal bests:

  • All-Age Participation: From EYFS to Year 6, children will play alongside one another, with older students encouraged to act as “Inclusion Ambassadors.”
  • Adaptive Play: Every station is equipped with adaptive gear (such as ramps for bowling or kurling) to ensure that every student can participate fully.
  • Success Tracking: Rather than a leaderboard, children use “Challenge Cards” to track their own improvements throughout the session.

Sportsmanship and Integrity

In an inclusion setting, we measure success by how we treat one another.

  • The “Spirit of the Games” Awards: Special recognition for students who show outstanding Determination, Honesty, and Passion.
  • Collaborative Play: Many activities, like Bench Hockey, are designed so that the team must work together to succeed.
  • Respecting the Official: Even in a friendly festival, we listen to the “Young Leaders” and staff running the stations to ensure everyone plays fairly.
