St Barnabas Trust Key Stage 1 Cricket Competition
Get ready to step up to the crease! We are excited to announce our Key Stage 1 Cricket Competition, a high-energy day designed to introduce our youngest learners to the world of cricket. This festival focuses on the core skills of batting, bowling, and fielding in a fun, supportive indoor environment.
Our Trust Vision: “Bring It!”
At the heart of the Cricket Competition is our Trust vision: Bring It. For our KS1 cricketers, this means more than just scoring runs; it’s about the attitude they bring to the pitch:
- Bring your Energy: Staying active in the field and cheering on every teammate.
- Bring your Courage: Having the heart to stand at the crease and face the ball for the first time.
- Bring your Best: Focusing on steady hands and a straight arm, no matter the result.
Whether they are hitting their first boundary or making a great stop in the field, we want every child to “Bring It” with a smile!
Competition Format: “The Big Bash”
For Key Stage 1, we focus on a Skills-First approach. The day is designed to build confidence before moving into short games with friendly competition.
Phase 1: The Skills Carousel
Children will rotate through interactive zones led by sports leaders:
- Batting: Focusing on hand-eye coordination and the “ready position” to hit targets.
- Bowling: Learning the mechanics of a straight-arm bowl and aiming for the stumps.
- Fielding: Fun games centered around “crocodile catches” and quick-fire ground fielding.
Phase 2: Game Play
Once the skills are warmed up, the children will take part in games such as Diamond Cricket or short-format games. Despite the friendly competition, we strongly encourage a “personal best” mindset where teams try to:
- Work together
- Communicate clearly
- Demonstrate sportsmanship
Celebrating the Spirit
At the end of the competition, we will hold a presentation to celebrate every child’s effort. Special “Bring It” certificates will be awarded to those who demonstrated incredible energy, courage, and improvement throughout the day.
