St Barnabas Trust KS2 Netball Competition

Netball is a fast-paced, high-energy sport that demands sharp communication, precision, and incredible teamwork. Our Trust is excited to host a dedicated Key Stage 2 Netball Competition, bringing together children from across our schools to showcase their talent on the court.

To provide the best possible experience, we have secured some of the finest indoor facilities in the region, ensuring that the weather never gets in the way of the action. Our KS2 Netball events will take place across one of three premier locations, utilising professional-standard sports halls:

  • Lux Park Leisure Centre: Offering a high-quality community space for our competitive fixtures.
  • Callington Community College: A central hub for our East Cornwall schools with an indoor dome, creating weatherproof indoor space with markings for a range of different sports.
  • Callywith College: Providing a fantastic atmosphere in their modern sports hall and .

Competition Format: Skills & Spirit

This competition is specifically designed for children in Years 3 through to 6. While we know our players love to win, our primary goal is to foster a love for the game and improve technical ability. The events are split into two key focuses:

1. Developing the Basics

Before the main matches begin, students will participate in “warm-up rotations.” These are designed to develop essential netball skills, including:

  • High-speed passing: Focusing on chest, bounce, and overhead passes.
  • Footwork & Pivoting: Ensuring players stay grounded and move efficiently.
  • Shooting Technique: Practicing accuracy from various points within the “D.”

2. Competitive Match Play

Once the whistles blow, the focus shifts to friendly competition. Children will have the opportunity to play multiple games against different schools within the Trust. This format allows players to:

  • Experience the tactical side of the game.
  • Understand the importance of specific positions (from GS to GK).
  • Learn how to play with “Spirit of the Game” – respecting the umpires and their opponents regardless of the final score.

Join the Action

Whether your child is an experienced club player or picking up a netball for the very first time, these events are about participation, progress, and pride. We encourage all students to give it their best, support their teammates, and most importantly, have fun!
