Braddock Primary Pupils playing rounders

St Barnabas Trust KS2 Rounders Competition

Get ready for a summer of tactical strikes and lightning-fast fielding! Rounders is the ultimate game of strategy, teamwork, and precision, and this competition is designed to test the skills of our Year 3 through Year 6 students in a high-energy environment.

As a Key Stage 2 event, this moves beyond basic skill-building and into a structured competitive tournament format where every run counts!

Our Trust Vision: “Bring It!”

At the heart of the Rounders Championships is our Trust vision: Bring It. We want our KS2 athletes to step onto the pitch ready to give their all:

  • Bring your Energy: Explosive sprints between posts and constant communication in the field.
  • Bring your Courage: Stepping up to the batting square with confidence or making that high-pressure catch in the deep.
  • Bring your Best: Focusing on tactical decision-making—knowing when to run and when to hold the post.

Competition Format: Tactical Play

The day is split into two phases to ensure teams are warm and ready for the competitive fixtures.

Phase 1: Tactical Warm-ups

Before the main matches, teams will rotate through “Match-Ready” stations:

  • Batting: Practising directional hitting to find the gaps in the field.
  • Stumping: Drills focused on the “bowler-to-post” transition to get runners out.
  • Fielding: Improving long-distance throwing accuracy and “backing up” the posts.

Phase 2: The Championships

Once the warm-ups are complete, the tournament officially begins:

  • Group Stages & Finals: Teams will play a series of timed innings in a league format, leading to a grand final.
  • Professional Officiating: Games will be umpired to high standards, ensuring students learn the official rules and the importance of respecting the “Umpire’s Call.”
  • The Leaderboard: Every half-rounder and rounder will be tracked. Medals and certificates will be awarded to the champions and those who best embody the “Spirit of the Game.”

Sportsmanship and Integrity

While the competitive drive is high, the core values of Fair Play and Respect remain paramount. Every match concludes with a handshake, acknowledging the effort and skill of the opposition. In Rounders, success is a team effort – from the bowler’s delivery to the fourth-post stump!
