Trust Primary Athletics Competitions – Summer Games

Get ready to run, jump, and throw! The Summer Games is our premier Trust wide athletics competition. This event is one of the highlights of the summer term, bringing together students to showcase their athletic prowess, determination, and school pride.

To ensure every child has the best experience, The Summer Games are held over separate days: one dedicated to Key Stage 1 and another for Key Stage 2.

Our Trust Vision: “Bring It!”

At the heart of the Summer Games is our Trust vision: Bring It. This isn’t just about winning medals; it’s a call to action for every student. We want our athletes to:

  • Bring their Energy: Give every race and every throw their absolute maximum effort.
  • Bring their Courage: Have the heart to try a new event or step onto the track in front of a crowd.
  • Bring their Best: Focus on personal growth and beating their own “Personal Bests.”

Whether they are a budding sprinter or a first-time long-jumper, we want every child to “Bring It” from the first whistle to the final ceremony.

The Tournament Format: Skill & Competition

The Summer Games are designed to balance high-level skill development with a structured competitive environment. Whether it’s on the track or in the field, the day is built around the three pillars of athletics:

Running: Speed and Endurance

Students will test their limits across various distances. From the explosive power of the 60m and 100m sprints to the grit required for middle-distance runs and the teamwork of the relays, the track is where speed meets strategy.

Throwing: Power and Precision

In the field, the focus shifts to strength and technique. Students will compete in throwing events such as the Vortex howler throw and shot put, focusing on achieving maximum distance through proper form and explosive release.

Jumping: Explosive Movement

The jumping events challenge students to defy gravity. Participants will take part in the standing long jump and vertical jump, where success depends on a perfect combination of timing, balance, and leg power.

The Competition

While the KS1 day focuses heavily on “Personal Bests” and participation, the KS2 event introduces a higher level of competition to elevate the stakes:

  • Heats & Finals: For track events, students will compete in timed heats, with the fastest athletes progressing to a grand final.
  • The Leaderboard: Every centimeter thrown and every second shaved off a run contributes to a school’s overall points tally.
  • Medals & Awards: A closing ceremony will celebrate top performers and those who demonstrated the best “Olympic Spirit” and “Bring It” attitude throughout the day.

Sportsmanship and Resilience

While the Summer Games is a competitive event, the core values of Perseverance, Respect, and Integrity remain at its heart. We expect all athletes to cheer for their teammates, respect the officials’ measurements, and celebrate the achievements of their peers from across the Trust.

Whether they are crossing the finish line first or beating their own personal record, The Summer Games is about giving it your all. Let the games begin!
