About St Martin’s C of E Primary School

Martin’s C of E Primary School is a thriving primary school located in Liskeard. We serve our community with 10 primary classes and a dedicated Nursery provision, fostering a vibrant and supportive environment for all pupils. Our curriculum is fun, memorable and irresistible.

Every class participates in termly adventures, ranging from climbing Cornwall’s highest peaks and coastal beach days to exploring rock formations through weaseling on Dartmoor, bear hunting at Cardinham Woods, engaging in mountain biking and canoeing at Siblyback Lake. We invest in pupil development by running Learning to Learn Camps at the start of each new year for all KS2 pupils, promoting crucial skills in resilience, independence and teamwork.

As a Church of England school, our ethos is founded on Christian values; however, we are proudly inclusive of children from all faiths. We work in close partnership with St Martin’s Church, which enriches our spiritual life and community engagement. Beyond the classroom, we place great emphasis on our pastoral work, ensuring the well-being and emotional development of every child is a top priority. We have a dedicated pastoral team who provide targeted support, promoting positive mental health, resilience and a sense of belonging for all pupils.

Our early years education is exceptionally strong, offering both a fantastic indoor nursery and a wonderfully natural outdoor nursery where children are actively encouraged to learn through exploration and calculated risk-taking. This unique outdoor space includes the opportunity for children to learn about responsibility and nature by cooking safely on an open fire. This commitment to natural, adventure-based learning extends across the whole school. We believe these challenging, real-world experiences are vital in developing confident, curious, and well-rounded individuals ready for the next stage of their education.

The extensive school grounds are equipped with superb outdoor facilities that encourage active play and physical literacy every day. Pupils benefit from a specially designed purpose-built bike track and a go-kart track. The playground also features an outdoor gym, an exhilarating zip wire, and challenging climbing frames. These resources ensure that every child has the opportunity to engage in physical activity and develop essential coordination and gross motor skills, as well as an active playtime.

By working in collaboration with all the other schools in the Trust our children have all the opportunities they would if they went to a large school but with the benefits that a small family school has to offer.
