St Barnabas Trust KS1 Multi-Skills Festival – Target & Teamwork
Get ready to aim high and play together! Our Multi-Skills Festival is a vibrant, energetic event designed specifically for our Year 1 and Year 2 children. This day focuses on the foundational skills of aim, accuracy, and coordination through a series of exciting, target-based challenges.
The Festival Format: Discovery & Achievement
For Key Stage 1, we focus on personal bests and collective team success. The day is structured to build confidence, helping students master new equipment while learning how to encourage their teammates.
Skill Discovery Stations
Before the main challenges begin, teams will rotate through activities to find their focus and sharpen their technique.
Once the children are warmed up, they will take on a variety of target-based games. The focus is on patience and precision:
Examples:
Junior Archery
Using soft-tip arrows to hit different scoring zones on large targets.
Boccia
A game of precision where students try to roll their balls closest to the ‘jack’.
Beanbag Bullseye
A variety of tiered targets and hoops to test underarm throwing accuracy.
Target Bowling
Learning how much power to use to knock down specific pins or markers.
Building Team Spirit
While we celebrate every “bullseye,” the true heart of the festival is collaboration. At the Key Stage 1 level, we emphasise:
- Positive Cheering: Learning how to support a teammate when they are concentrating.
- Taking Turns: Respecting the order of play and being patient.
- Honesty: Encouraging students to help keep track of their own scores fairly.
Every child will receive a certificate and medal to celebrate their participation, with special stickers awarded for those showing the best teamwork and kindness throughout the day.
